Self Initiated, Development

stage 1 of painting

I decided to show some simple steps of a painting to understand how I would translate my paintings into knit. the image above is more simple, consisting of shades of red yellow, this I can knit using plating, hold or dropstitch to achieve the blend of colour, I could even dye my yarn so the colours do blend then use the techniques mentioned also. 

Stage 2 of painting

To achieve the next layer I can either foil, heat transfer, or using techniques on the machine, e wrap, plate, I can use multiple techniques to layer up texture to capture the chaos within my images. 

Stage 3 of painting

For the final stage of adding dark bold marks, This can be embroidery, foil, e wrap, or heat transfer, to add the dark details.

Self initiated, Development

For the self initiated project, I have been struggling to translate my painting into knit. Carrying through with the concept of chaos. I feel that I need to make my paintings even more abstract, Focusing on layering of textures and marks. It was suggested during tutorial that using heat transfer or other means of dying to get the distorted and blend of colour. This can be the base layer of colour but can use plating and drop stitch to create shapes and distort the knit. On the top of this I can work into with foiling beading and some way of layer dark bold lines.

Branding Project, Development

During this unit I have been layering textures using tracing paper, I have developed this below using photoshop which I feel has been working well, I will knit eat section separately that are seen overlapping. 

Refined colour pallet

Also my colour pallet has changed from being 'lego' colours to a darker colour pallet suitable for Autumn/ Winter. This change is because the photos I was looking at were mostly dark blues browns and greys, so made sense to take the colour differently from these images.

Development

During this weeks tutorial it was suggested that the technique I was trying out, using bubbles and ink, was working well, this idea of capturing something very unpredictable became noticed again. And also then contrasting something very natural and organic then with the linear marks that I have been working with. This idea of capturing something organic I really enjoyed, I then went one to take some photos to work from of ink in water, this I can work from and also take inspiration to transfer straight onto the knit machine

I have struggled this week with moving my ideas forward, weather this is due to my need to go onto the knitting machines more and experiment with yarn qualities more or weather I need to get my ideas planned out before rushing into anything.

I am liking the linear drawings with bold colour I am using and also like the textured pieces I did at the start which I had tried to join together to create something smooth to then something more three dimensional. These techniques are the techniques that I wish to continue with most as I feel they have a lot of potential.
