Contextual References

Anne Kyyro Quinn

Anne Kyyro Quinn creates interior textile pieces, rich textures and striking motifs.Anne Kyyro Quinn's sculptural approach is a new genre of textiles as it is more three-dimensional rather than flat surface. I am inspired by her work as it is very natural, the shapes she creates are very organic. I feel that this element is what I most admire about her work. She mostly works with Felts, this is a lovely material to work with as it holds its shape well but yet still looks soft, not too harsh.

Ealish Wilson

Ealish Wilson is a fibre artist and textiles artist, inspired by travel, fashion, photography and traditional sewing techniques. There are many quality's of her work which I am inspired by, one is the use of material.Ealish uses material which I would not myself use but work very well and look very effective. I also love the scale, though I prefer working on a small scale focusing more on detail, the large scale which Ealish works at looks stunning as her techniques turn into pattern like pieces.

Matt Shilian

Matt Shilian creates three-dimensional sculptures, with the basis of folds. ''Guided by wonder, my work is made because I cannot visualise its final realization;'' I am fascinated by Matts work as it is so detailed by yet his techniques seems so complicated. In particular I love this piece, the colour choice is lovely, very neutral colours, making the piece look like a natural form.

Aleksaundra Gaca

Sound absorbing and artistic, textile designer Aleksaundra Gaca has developed a series of woven textiles that are noise reducing. I love this work as it is both practical but yet pleasing to the eye as a single piece of art work. In this piece I particularly like the colour and material choice, the colours are very faint but create a lovely surface repeat pattern. This is something I would like to achieve within my work, a single repeat patten that overall makes a lovely surface.

Giles Miller

Giles Miller Studios is a London based design practice, developing surface and interior design projects. I particularly like that Giles work is more relief than three-dimensional. I like this as it shows how effected relief forms can be. I also like the colour choice, the subtle cream colour makes the harsh shapes look soft, both these elements complement each other very well.
